How does your game fit the theme?
"Faces of the Underpit" fits the theme "everything is a resource" because, during combat, you're able to use a wide variety of elements from the environment, such as:
โ Throwing torches;
โ Setting enemies on fire in a chain reaction with torches;
โ Throwing stones;
โ Hurling the bones of defeated enemies;
โ Eating the flesh of defeated foes;
โ Using weakened enemies as hostages or shields;
โ Temporarily blinding enemies with dust from the ground;
โ Pleasing the crowd so they throw food.

Fun action game to play!
First of all, I really liked the audio, the music stuck in my head and had a great beat ๐ถ
Visually, it looked polished with nice special effects, characters, and a well-designed arena. Had a nice atmosphere and vibe.
The theme was worked in, although it was sometimes tricky to actually use all the resources, you really had to stand in just the right spot or remember to hit the spacebar. That said, the UI was super clear about which button to press, so that wasnโt the issue, probably just my own clumsiness ๐
And of course, your devlog was detailed again, as weโve come to expect. Awesome stuff, hopefully other participants learn something from it too!
All in all, another solid jam entry—keep it up! ๐๐ฅ
I liked this top-down survival game! The graphics are dark and go well with the overall mood.
Interactions are bit slow and clumsy (or maybe it's just me!)
It goes well with the theme and actually has some story to it!
Thanks for making this.
its a nice arena game! It has the crunchiness when hitting enemies, which feels amazing! I still had a really hard time using stuff from the ground as no matter where I clicked, I had like a 1% chance of activating them, which was a bit frustrating since this is the theme mechanic. Good game tho!
Really enjoyed the combat... feels good killing those enemies. Art is also decent and level design is done pretty well. Overall had a good time playing your game. Awesome!!
Very punchy! Unfortunately I wasn't able to pick stuff up with space, rightclick, leftclick, nothin, so I felt I was missing out on the experience a lil. I like that it was still relatively easy to beat with the default move though, and enjoyed what I was able to access. (also bonus points for being able to skip dialogue)
This was fun! It was engaging and I found myself wanting to keep playing. The art is awesome! The actions had a good punch to them. I liked the pictures in your devlog to show the progress in your art/game. I also really appreciated the spawning factor after reading your devlog. The color palette was distinct and worked well. I found the "left mouse click" and "spacebar" icons super helpful during gameplay. Great job!
GAMEPLAY: The tutorial was quick and unobtrusive. Fighting was a touch confusing at first, but the button prompts helped me learn what everything did, and I was off fighting right and early. Once I died, the timer stopped, but everything else kept going, and I had to reload the game to try again.
VISUALS: The jagged edges of the pixel art seemed unskilled at first, but leaning into it being a stylistic choice could really pay off (which it seems like you're almost there). I don't know why my enemies appear to be rabbits, though maybe that's just me. The animations for the enemies are really well done and fit the atmosphere. Do demons like broccoli?
AUDIO: The dialogue blips not ending at the right time miffed me a bit. I adore the music choice--it fits perfectly for an underworld thunderdome.
THEME: I can pick up weapons off my enemies, but for how barren the Underpit is, 'everything' is too bold a descriptor. Still, you can get very resourceful in there.
Cool game, I especially like the visuals and the music is really fitting. What I also like is that the game is fast-paced. The movement is fast, the effects are cool and the camera shake adds polish.
One thing to note could be, that the hit boxes for the items could be slightly larger - it felt difficult to aim with them because I have to get very close to throw them, and then it is very difficult to gauge a throwing angle since the margin is very small.
Nice game, i had fun playing it for a few runs! I like how the theme is implemented, with being able to throw any object lying around as a weapon. The combat feels smooth and the visuals and music also fit in well. I especially like the background music track, it has that ominous feel. The picking up/ throwing mechanic could have been implemented a bit smoother or could have been explained a little more clearly through a short tutorial as it was not very evident how to do it so i struggled with it earlier. But overall well done :)
I assume this is an endless game — either I just donโt have the skill, or nothing really happens after several minutes of surviving and fighting on the level. So what are we even fighting for? Why are we supposed to entertain the crowd?
Visually and sound-wise — no complaints. Itโs well-made and feels good.
But itโs frustrating to click on bones, torches, or pick up food — itโs really hard to hit them with the mouse, and you also canโt choose which direction to throw them in.
Great art and combat,reminds me of hollow knight
