Great looking and clever puzzle platformer!

This was a visual treat: the lighting effects and pixel art style looked great! The audio and SFX fit perfectly and really helped create a strong atmosphere and vibe that all worked well together.

Controls felt smooth and responsive. I had a bit of trouble with the mouse at times, needing to do two things at once, but that’s more on me 😅 than the game.

I would’ve liked a bit more of a tutorial at the start, since I wasn’t entirely sure what to do at first. Then again, the “eureka” moments when discovering new mechanics and UI features made it all the more satisfying because I was ignorant.

It was a bit harsh to have to start over completely after dying. Some checkpoints would’ve been nice so you don’t have to replay everything from the beginning.

The theme was definitely worked into the gameplay...check ✅

A solid jam entry, and also a great base for a more expanded version if you continue with it.
Job well done! 💪

Absolutely gorgeous visuals. Pixel art, atmosphere lighting and animation are all impeccable.

Moving around the world was great and I was ready to explore more, but my character sat down at some point and I did not know what to do anymore :(

Thank you for your feedback!

Too bad you were stuck here, you were almost to the end.

At this point you need to clear your inventory so you can finish the game. But I didn't make that clear enough, as some of you ended on a quite bitter note because of this.

FANTASTIC ART. this is a huge project and has a lot of potential! I was stuck at first playing because I didnt understand too much what was going on, but overall the game is nice! It is a bit heavy to play in the browser but it is awesome!

Developer

Thanks !

Yeah performance was something I was not expecting to have problems with for a 2D game, optimization isn't a difficult topic for nothing x)

Gotta look more into it next time !

Submitted(+1)

First of all, the pixel art is AMAZING, the lighting awesome and the overall atmosphere simply fantastic!! The movement is really nice as well as the concept! It fits the theme really good! As others mentioned, I experienced too framedrops, but overall it is a really nice game! Well done!

Developer

I really appreciate it, thanks!

This is visually pleasing! The gameplay feels good and pretty smooth. I could see this becoming an awesome full fledged game. I hope you keep adding to it! I did experience some frame rate drops. Maybe something to do with the particle effect. We work in godot and particle effects always bog up our frame rate. Also my computer is getting a bit old now. So it could just be on my end.

Sweet game and I love the bioluminescent feel!

Developer

The game is so spaghetti coded, it doesn’t surprise me that it has performance issues like that x)

But thanks for the advice and great feedback, I'll check that out later!

Is it just me or is anyone else getting severe rubberbanding + getting stuck in corners + framedrops?

Developer(+1)

I don't know about rubberbanding and getting stuck in corners (as it never happened to me nor any of my friends who tested the game), but framedrops are surely a thing for everyone (at least, on browser), thanks to my amazing skills in the optimization department (or not).

Thank you for letting me know anyway.

It might be the combination of WebGL + Linux, which is known to have issues sometimes. I did try in both Chromium and Firefox, both gave the issue. I won’t rate your game since I am unable to experience it properly, but from what I managed to do it seemed quite fun.

Submitted(+1)

The lighting of the game is done so well! Great work on it! I was a little lost at the beginning, so I think some kind of tutorial will help, but great work overall!

Developer(+1)

Thanks!

The biggest mistake I made with this game was assuming that everyone would understand the mechanics pretty quickly and what to do.

A lot of people found themselves stuck in places I hadn’t even thought of because of the lack of explanation.

Gotta do better next time then! x)

What a hidden gem of a platformer!

From first glance, I could already see that these graphics are so amazing. Your use of lighting and glow is extraordinary, and makes this game's art absolutely beautiful. 5 stars for graphics for sure, I'm not sure how you did it, but the art here is better than most Nintendo Switch games!

The atmosphere is rich and brimming with personality. The subtle sound of the heartbeat and the smooth, crips animations of the player make for a well-polished and professional experience.

The game was a little hard for me to understand at first, and I didn't always understand why I'd die. As I played, more I got the hang of it, but I found the lack of a tutorial a bit frusturating. It was a little hard to understand what to do and where to go.

Your choice of sound effects is precise and perfect as well. You clearly know how to build an experience, and I really enjoyed playing. Great job!

Developer

As an artist, this message goes straight to my heart. <3

I'll start with the only thing that I didn't like- I don't know if I actually finished the game. At som point my guy just sat down (like at the start of the game), but eating did nothing. Lantern didn't show any objects. So was this it? If yes- it was a bit anticlimactic. Now for the things I liked.

HOLLY CRAP! THE PRESENTATION! The combination of pixel art, and low light you made works fantastic! Simple? Yeah, but absolutely beautiful at the same time. Same goes for the sound. You start with such subtle music, that from the first second I just knew, that you get how to deliver something aesthetically great. The sound effects! Fitting the old-school vibe, crisp, just enough to give the player feedback.

Now, I'm gonna talk about the game mechanics. First thing you introduce is that you can eat stuff, and it gives you energy. Then, the actual game starts, and I noticed how tight are the controls. In platformers this is crucial, and man, you delivered! I loved the fact you could grab the edges! Again- even without other elements at this point, this would have been a great platformer.

But you didn't end here, right? After all "everything is a resource". And I'm like- everything is a resource for building towers, that you can climb. And fruit are a resource for regaining strength. And then, because you know not to give the player all the information at once, that's how I played. Until I noticed that even the inventory space is a resource, and you can eat a bench, or a lantern. I think this is exactly the moment when I realized that chances of finding better game at this jam are next to nothing. And don't get me wrong- there are some really solid entries here, but, sir, you take the cake!

Now, you know this game makes some problems for you, right? Because- it's gonna be a lot of work to make it a full release, that you can throw on Steam. Because that's what you gotta do here, man! This was awesome, and we need more!

Developer

Your kind words make me speechless.

Thanks a lot ! It makes me really happy to read how your experience went exactly as I hoped.

As you mentionned at the beginning, you got stuck just before the end of the game, because of a clarity issue i didn't expected (you had to clear your inventory to finish the game)

I don't know how i could scale that game to a full release but maybe i will try someday !

Thanks again <3

Made it past the big cliff with the stack of the glowing inventory boxes then the character started slowing down. in a dark part of the level. Fed em some boxes then I got softlocked (It didn't restart like usual). I stopped here, but here are my thoughts.

MAN THE GRAPHICS! They look awesome! Took me a sec to figure out that you can quite literally "eat" almost any item (Love the use of the theme btw, one of the games where I feel quite literally everything is a resource). I also really liked the sense of progression you get when you realize the items you place don't vanish when you die. Game is quite peak, aside from the softlock! I have nothing to add, really.

Developer

Unfortunately, you were also stuck just before the end like a few others.

Thanks for your thoughts on the graphics and my interpretation of the theme, i'm quite proud with how it turned out !

Fun fact, the sense of progression is actually an unintended feature. I learned it halfway through the jam, and found this so cool I kept it (since the game reloads the default level elements without clearing what was added at runtime).

Overall the visual style is nice. gives hollowknight vibes.

However I was stuck even after trying 4 time at the glowing ball thing.

however placing the ball on the player, was not intuitive. I came to know only after reading the comments here.

Developer

Hollow knight is one of my main inspirations, glad you noticed it !

This game fits perfectly with the theme, the visuals and gameplay are crisp and perfect. The only problem I have with it is that it's very non-linear and hard to understand what to do next. Also if you make a mistake you pretty much have to restart.

Developer

I understood by playing the other entries that having no way to retry other than restarting completely gets annoying quite quickly, i agree with you on that.

Tutorials is also something i need to keep in mind.

Thank you !

Submitted(+1)

Great visual style and nice controls! The mechanic to consume anything you see is really fun and goes well with the theme. The levels also felt engaging and was good to explore. Great job overall!

Developer

Thank you ! Glad you liked it !

Submitted(+1)

same bug as Stealthix described happened to me at first lol. almost made me quit the game XD otherwise the visual style is very nice and platforming is responsive, but almost no soundtrack made it feel empty

Overall, great job !

Developer

Fortunately, Stealthix's comment was there then x)

I would have loved to compose a soundtrack for this game, but i didn't have enough time apart from the small introductory music

The visuals are stunning! The lighting and glow is actually amazing! The gameplay is great and the concept is interesting. I did feel a bit lost roaming around the map, I didn't really even know what general direction I was supposed to go (up or right?). I got to a part where I was in a dark tunnel and I kept stopping me for like 15 seconds and then I could keep walking again. Eventually I got to the end of the tunnel and my character disappeared and nothing was happening (did I win?). Overall, this game was really awesome, however I feel like the player might need some more direction on where to go and what to do.

Developer

Yeah so uh I kind of hum.. forgot to write that the game was over at the end lol.

Thank you for your feedback and describing your experience !

Great platforming! Jumping felt smooth and responsive, and the interaction with the environment added a lot to the gameplay.

The visuals were fantastic - probably the best I've seen in this jam. Really polished!

The sound design was very well done and complemented the gameplay perfectly.

The theme is also checked!

-> A well made entry - good work all round!

Developer

I have nothing more to say than thank you :)

Submitted(+1)

Heya Pikiboiii! First and foremost - your presentation is just *chef's kiss*. Perfect 10/10. The page, the intro, the mood - nothing to add :D

Unfortunately I got stuck here and I can't do anything. The player doesn't react on A or D and I can't interact with the light.

I've tried reloading but I end up with the same problem. Could you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Submitted(+1)

Same thing happened to me, you're supposed to drag the fruit on to the character. It's like the character is eating it.

Developer(+1)

Yes, you have to drag it onto the character. It was clear to me, but apparently not clear enough, My bad x)

Submitted(+1)

Gotcha, thanks for the info :D will try it again

Submitted

I was also stuck in the same spot after trying 4 time. I tried to 'kick' the glowing ball around for light but it gets stuck at the step thing.
