I'm an unemployment master.
xD me too
upside is more time for game jams :D
Job application final boss, horror game. Very cool game loved the pixel art and the concept xdd
Thanks for playing the game :D
Glad you liked the art and concept <3
that was a very nice and clean boss. the boss attacks were very fair and i always felt like it was my fault when i died not something i couldnt control, so that was great. with some more time i can surly see how you could have added more attacks and more weapons, but generally it is a good entry well done!!
Thanks for playing the game :D
I'm glad you liked it and didn't find it unfair ^_^ Yup if I had more time I would have definitely thought of changing the attacks a bit more for the different stages !
Game was very solid! The boss fight attacks were very solidly telegraphed and I very much liked the mechanic of having to switch between the instant use items, and the infinite apple. The visuals were very pleasing, with little to say other than maybe slightly too monotone or dark, but thats frankly nitpicking alot. The difficulty might need some adjusting, specifically with the minion summoning attack in the later phases, as it created alot of moments where it was near impossible to dodge the minions and the bosses next attack at the same time, which lead to my next issue which is the invincibility frames, which there are not enough of, its super easy to get comboed to death from full health in a split second. I think just a few slight tweaks to some timers such as increasing the i frame period, and maybe make the boss take some extra before its next attack after summoning minions would make the game feel alot less frustrating, but even still, very fun and challenging boss fight :)
Thanks for playing :D I'm glad you liked it
Btw the "apple was supposed to a bag of doritos xD I chose to make the art a bit darker and more monotone cause one of the main inspirations for this game is the concept of hikikomori which are people who are kind of depressed and don't leave their room for a long time. So the desaturated colors and depressed theme is supposed to reflect that QwQ (ik its kind of sad)
Yeah I would agree the game is kind of unforgiving for reasons you pointed it out. I wish I had implemented a setting to change difficulty because I like challenging games but I know not everyone wants to suffer lmao xD
Cute game can not do much,
:( is it not working for you?
yes or not shore how to play
Here are the controls if you didn't see on the itch.io page or the menu:
Space - Dialogue
WASD - Movement
F - Pick up items
Click - Throw/Shoot item
Pizza does extra damage, Soda does splash damage, both are single use.
There is also a video with gameplay if you need more tips :D (or watch florian's speedrun !)
so did you figure it out? :(((
Really fun and challenging shooter, and great use of the theme too, nice twist on the setting. The shooting mechanics and gameplay was really fun and smooth. Especially liked the patterns of the envelopes and linkedin monsters, were difficult to dodge, but you had to learn their movements and then it became easier. I would have liked it if keeping the mouse pressed would shoot, instead of having to click for every bullet, but thats a minor issue, not a big deal. The pizza and soda bottle were also fun little options for weapons to add some variety and had a nice risk/ reward for the player.
The artstyle was nice, i loved the color palette and the different sprites used. One thing maybe could have helped was to make the background elements which were not interactable to have a little less saturation to make the interactable ones more prominent.
There was a nice feel to the shooting, but maybe could be 'juiced up' even more with screen shakes and particles, i think it would add to the fun element. THe integration with the theme was also perfect and very organic.
What could have added more variety was having a differnet 'boss' visually each time one was destroyed. The difficulty definitely ramps up (i reached the 3rd level after attempting a few times and it was definitely harder!) but having it look just a bit differnet would add to the feeling of progressing.
Overall though this was a really fun entry and well polished, great job :)
Hi! Tyty for playing the game :D
I'm glad you liked it! I think for future games I definitely need to make some sort of setting option to change keybinds because everyone seems to have their own preferences :p
The pizza and soda were definitely added to create risk and reward ! They were put on the edge of the map to incentivize the player to move around even if it meant their chance of getting hit would be higher D: The color palette was melancholic, desaturated, and sort of depressed looking imo which was the vibe I was going for!
Yeah the boss animations are kind of simple and could have definitely added more character if he turned sad everytime he got beat xD
INTENSE! I didn't manage to beat the game- but the way the difficulty ramps up was pretty good.
The oldschool style works well with bullet hell gameplay, but I think some thumping background music would enhance the experience even more.
Use of the theme was on point, although I was a bit sorry for the protagonist. Come on guy- let those linked in recruiters get you!
Thanks for playing the game and I'm glad you liked it :D
I wish I added music to the boss fight T-T I just could not find anything that fitted and I never composed music myself before. If you have any tips that would be very helpful <3
xD I feel sympathy for the guy too. That job application was tough !
Really enjoyed this bullet hell game - and the meme of unemployed was so effortlessly implemented without it being not funny. To improve - think of adding some enemy-based music and tone up the game juice.
This was a really fun entry and is now one of my favourites from the Jam!
Thanks for playing the game :D
I'm glad you enjoyed it <3 and the meme was definitely what inspired this game :p
I wish I knew how to compose music it would have been so cool to have a boss fight soundtrack. I just wasn't able to find smth I thought was fitting. If you know anywhere to find music for games or if you know a good tutorial for making game music feel free to share ^_^
I like using pixabay.com
Search up 8-bit music and I really like the ones done by DJARTMUSIC - or smth like that. I have the name of the artist in my game, canât remember off the top of my head.
Very nice entry, I had to get used to changing weapons with F, messing up first few runs, but once I got the hang of it, it played nicely. If I were to add something or change, maybe I would add some more variation between the fight phases.
Thanks for playing the game :P
This was my first boss fight I've made so I didn't really know what type of attacks to do (I don't play many boss fight games myself lol)
I think it thought of the circle attack pattern from very common bullet hell games. I kinda thought it would be cool if they spawned in one at a time instead of shooting it all at once and it worked out ! The other envelope attack was inspired by a game I played on cool math games xD. If you have any suggestions that would be useful for future games <3
Very fun bullet hell game, with a funny premise, great entry!! The boss attack patterns feel well choreographed and there's a good amount of variety to keep you on your toes. The artwork is super cute and everything feels cohesive and part of the same world. The main color palatte drives home the melancholy vibes of avoiding a job very well, and having the weapons be colorful bits of trash was a cool touch. Loved the pizza bomb lol. The sfx are nice and crunchy, and the background jingle is a fun listen that fits the fast-paced gameplay well.
I found using the F key to interact with weapons extremely annoying. It felt unnatural and I kept having to glance down at the keyboard to press it causing me to get hit unnecessarily. I think space bar or right click on the mouse would have been better, and its a bummer because I was having a lot of fun but the difficulties with the controls caused me to stop playing earlier than I would have otherwise. The farthest I made it was about halfway through the boss' second life. edit: like someone else in the comments said: slightly more forgiving hitboxes on the enemies and more visual feedback when the player does get hit would be nice additions too.
That being said, the game was very fun and impressively polished. The design of the job application boss was super cool and I liked the way the JOB text up top formed into a kind of face. The core mechanic of the boss fight is great and all the wave attacks and player weapons are fun and feel well thought out. Awesome entry, keep up the good work!!
Hi! Thanks for playing the game :D
I'm glad you liked it and the feedback you gave is really good :>
Quite a few people have mentioned the weird keybind so maybe in future games I should make it changeable in settings. Also probably make the game more forgiving/beginner friendly. A difficulty setting probably would have been the best to appeal to different skill levels :)
Also the JOB face is my favorite sprites ^_^
I like how the different collectables serve different purposes. It feels really good to throw that pizza slice and see a big portion of the boss's health disappear! I like the bullet hell mechanics, but it's very hard and unforgiving. It looks like touching even one pixel of those letters is enough to hurt me. Combine that with low HP, small invincibility, and no way to regen health, and it can feel frustrating for some players. I would rather have more projectiles and smaller hitboxes to make the game feel more fair.
I also didn't like using the F key to grab since I had to either take one finger off the movement keys or place my thumb in an uncomfortable way. Using the space or LShift key would be far more comfortable in my opinion.
Here is my little speedrun of the game :)
Thanks for playing and speedrunning :o the game :D
Yeah I definitely made the envelope hitbox pretty big (I kind of just made it the same size as the sprite without thinking about it too much) . And no healing is also probably also a big factor lol. The difficulty definitely should have been lowered or I should have given an option for the player to lower it themselves in settings. (also change keybinds in settings)
Your speedrun is amazing btw :O
Okay this one is actually a funny but frustrating game XD, cool pixel art and sfx is really on point! the gameplay can be a bit confusing without any tutorial, i didn't realized i need to hit the paper until i'm on my 4th death. Also the game can be a bit smaller even if i use the fullscreen on itch.io. Perhaps you can tone down the difficulty because the longer it is, the harder it seems still considering the memes, jobless is not an option in this economy thus the difficulty in the game XD Well done!
Thanks for playing the game :D
Maybe I should have added different difficulty options because it sounds like quite a few people are struggling a bit to beat it.
Glad you found it funny because that was my goal lol :p
Fun idea, maybe missing a little more feedback when you take damage. Cool entry !
Yeah I think the SFX could be louder lol and maybe a more visible flashing for iframes. Glad you found it fun :D
Funny game, liked the weapon variety
Thanks for playing :>
I'm glad you liked it and found it funny :p
really liked the idea of the game, its so fun and cool, good job
Thanks for playing the game :D
I'm glad you liked it :>
I liked the idea — fighting off unwanted job offers with pizza and chips đđ. Fun but very challenging. Good job!
Thanks for playing the game :D
I'm glad you found it fun and challenging ^_^
Your game is soo fun to play but really hard if you toned the difficulty abit little bit, but i love your game keep going man
Thanks for playing :>
I agree that the game is probably a bit difficult because not many people have beaten it so far T-T but I'm glad you enjoyed it :D
The art style and bullet hell mechanics reminded me a lot of Undertale. After my seventh attempt, I defeated the boss three or four timesâand then died.
I found it easiest to circle, avoiding the pizza and sodas, while spamming the hell out of the crisps. I was also gutted when I raced the boss, thinking I was going to get a reprieve, but it immediately jumped into the next dangerous wave.
I swear, some of the hitboxes felt unforgiving. I thought I dodged, got hit anyway, realised I got hit, and then got hit again. But thanks to the fast-paced nature of the game, it wasnât really a problemâI was back in another run within seconds.
I have to ask, is there an actual ending to this game, or is it endless?
Great submission! I donât usually like bullet hell games, but this one was genuinely enjoyable.
Thanks for playing :D
I'm glad you enjoyed it ^_^ and yes there is an ending scene when the boss is defeated :p (after you beat the third phase T-T) I wish I tuned the difficulty a little bit so that more people can reach it lol
If you wanted to see the ending without beating the game I just posted a walkthrough of the game on the itch.io page :D
I had so much fun with this! I love bullet hells!
The theme is on point, the art is stylish and cohesive, and there's a bit of dry humor to it all that just tickled me.
My only complaint is the lack of music during play. And is there a hard end to the game? I successfully defeated three job applications before I was forcibly employed.
Major props!
Thanks for playing :>
I'm glad you liked it ^_^ and yes there is an ending when the job is defeated (after you beat the third phase) :0
I just posted a walkthrough of the game on the itch.io page if you wanted to see the ending without beating the game :>
This is a super cool game!
Firstly the visuals, I have to say they look super polished and all the extra effects like camera shake, transitions, and animations felt super good.
Now the gameplay, I find it so funny that you actually fight the job application letter which made me laugh at the start and I think that's a super creative idea! The attacks are pretty cool and while they are repetitive and could use some more variety I think it's still amazing for a game jam.
This game has a lot of potential, a few abilities / upgrades could go a long way to giving this game a lot more depth.
Don't know if there's an end to the game cause I drained the boss bar health 2 times but nothing happened.
But other than that a very enjoyable game! I had fun playing it
Thanks for playing :D
I'm glad you liked it and yes there is an ending ! There are three phases to the boss and if you drained the health bar one more time (which may be challenging xD) you can see the ending :p
Ahhh maybe add a visual indicator for phases! (Unless you already did then I'm blind so that's my fault)
Good idea ! No you're not blind there is currently no way to tell which phase of the boss you're on :( unless you pay attention to the attacks (the boss shoots more projectiles and spawns more enemies with each phase).
I just posted a walkthrough of the game on the itch.io page if you wanted to see the ending without beating the game :>
Ooh I'll check that out tysm for letting me know
